The handling and removal of asbestos is strictly regulated and must be carried out by licensed contractors.
Since asbestos may be present in any building built or refurbished before 2000, it is important to have the Asbestos Management Plan in place.
As well as carrying out the surveys required, we can provide a complete management service for removal or encapsulation of asbestos. MAC can produce a scope of work for contractors, project management for licensed contractors and deal with any issues that arise during remediation works.
MAC will take care of sourcing an independent cost on all removal works that we manage to offer experience you can be confident that you will meet all your legal obligations in asbestos management.
Many products were manufactured using asbestos and were commonly used in appliances, building materials, as a fireproof barrier and in insulation.
How Harmful is Asbestos?
Asbestos is a Carcinogen. The prolonged inhalation of harmful asbestos fibres can cause serious illnesses including malignant lung cancer, mesothelioma (one of the rarest cancers affecting the lining of lungs, abdomen and the heart) and asbestosis (which affects the tissue in the lungs.)
Asbestos is known to be responsible for at least 4,000 deaths in the UK each year. The European Union has banned all use of asbestos and extraction, manufacture and processing of asbestos products. The first bans took place in 1985 with the last one, white asbestos (Chrysotile from the serpentine group), being banned as late as end of 1999.
